Milwaukee Bucks: Damian Lillard has been let go?

An unexpected turn of events occurred when the Milwaukee Bucks waived nine-time all-star Damian Lillard to clear cap space for a four-year $107 million deal with former Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner. This decision was announced yesterday, and this left fans and former teammates confused and heartbroken.

Former Milwaukee Bucks point guard, Damian Lillard, who joined the Bucks in 2023, was expected to miss the upcoming season while recovering from a torn Achilles injury after spending two seasons in Milwaukee, the franchise has decided to part ways with the veteran guard. 

The shake-up continues 

The broader roster shakes up even more with the Bucks having also parted ways with longtime center Brook Lopez, who has now signed a two-year $18 million deal with the L.A. Clippers. While former shooting guard Pat Connaughton, who has also been traded to the Charlotte Hornets. However, the Bucks re-signed fan favorite Bobby Portis to a three-year $44 million deal. The Milwaukee Bucks have also re-signed several players, including Taurean Prince, Gary Trent Jr., and Kevin Porter, while signing a two-year deal with Jericho Sims. When the team traded Pat Connaughton to the Hornets, it was for an exchange for veteran guard, Vasilije Micic. 

Now what?

With all of these things happening within the Bucks organization during the off-season and wondering whether or not Giannis will leave or stay in Milwaukee, fans are now asking what Antetokounmpo thinks of this. 

Giannis Response 

The two-time MVP is reportedly "not pleased" with the decision that has been made about wavering Lillard's contract and letting him go. Giannis took to social media and posted a cryptic "Mood 💯" meme shortly before the news broke, maybe suggesting that he may have been caught off guard. 

Doc Rivers Response

Former Bucks head coach Doc Rivers is visibly that he is frustrated with the ongoing trades that surround the Greek Freak superstar. He makes it clear that these rumors circulate, they are not based on truth, and that he hopes Giannis feels the same way about staying with the Bucks as the former Golden State Warriors do about staying with the Golden State Warriors. Rivers also indicates that his desire is to make Giannis a better player and person.

2025-26 lineup

The Bucks organization wants the 2025-26 season wants to build a great roster around the two-time MVP and former 2021 NBA Champion Giannis Antetokounmpo. This starting lineup will include Myles Turner, Kyle Kunzma, Kevin Porter Jr., and Gary Trent Jr., with Bobby Portis, Taurean Prince, and AJ Green benched.
