Former NFL player facing six felony charges
Hello everyone, and welcome to Crystal Sideline Buzz. Today, I will be discussing former NFL player LeShon Johnson, who is currently facing six felony charges.
What Happened?
LeShon Johnson, former running back for the Packers, Cardinals, and Giants, is facing six felony charges related to dog fighting. Johnson was found guilty of possessing, selling, and transporting animals for use in fighting ventures, actions that are strictly prohibited under federal law, which is a violation of the federal Animal Welfare Act. Investigators uncovered disturbing images on Johnson's device, including dogs on treadmills and others that were maimed or deceased.
A Spreadsheet was found during the investigation, allegedly tracking financial transactions through Cash App, with records pointing to both interstate and international exchanges tied to dog fighting. Prosecutors argue that Johnson bred and trafficked dogs specifically for fighting through his operation, Mal Kent Kennels. While Johnson claimed the Kennels was a legitimate breeding business, there was evidence that indicated that he was fully aware that he was raising these dogs for fighting for over four years, and the operation reportedly had over $4000,000 in sales.
However, this isn't Johnson's first time facing the law. In 2004, he pleaded guilty to a similar charge in the Oklahoma District Court and received a five-year deferred sentence.
