Former Michigan Coach charged? Let's talk about it!

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog. If you are new here, my name is Crystal. I am a student sport editor, content creator, and blogger. Today, I will be discussing what is going on with Michigan's football coach Sherrone Moore

Who is Sherrone Moore?

Sherrone Moore is the head College football coach for the University of Michigan. He attended the University of Oklahoma from 2006 to 2007 and became an assistant coach for the University of Louisville from 2014 to 2017. Coach Moore became part of the Michigan Wolverines coaching staff in 2018 as a tight end coach and then became a co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in 2021. During the 2023 season, the University of Michigan imposed a one suspension for coach Moore and then a three-game suspension for head coach Jim Harbaight due to recruiting violations.  In 2024, coach Moore became Michigan's head coach following the departure of Harbaugh, who went to the Los Angeles Chargers.  In August 2024, according to ESPN, it was reported that there was a list of allegations from the National Athletic Association (NCAA) with concerns of a sign-stealing scandal that indicated Coach Moore was one of seven members of Michigan back in 2023 who were accused of violating the NCAA rules. In October of 2023, he deleted a thread that contained 52 text messages with former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions.  In November of 2024, Coach Moore secured a commitment from the No. 1 overall-ranked high school recruit in the nation, Quarterback Bryce Underwood

What's happening now?

According to sources, on Friday, Coach Moore is being charged with third-degree home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering or entering without breaking after his detainment on Wednesday. Moore was released on a $25,000 bond; his next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 22. 2026. Moore was arrested in Saline, Michigan, on Wednesday, hours after he was fired from Michigan. The institution says that they discovered he had an inappropriate relationship with a staffer.

Sources say if Moore is found guilty of the home invasion charge, he could spend up to five years in prison and have to pay a $2,000 fine. If he is found guilty of stalking and breaking and entering, which are considered to be misdemeanors, he could face up to one year in jail and pay $1,000 fine, and an additional 90 days in jail with a $500 fine.

Prosecutors indicate that Moore grabbed a butter knife and kitchen scissors at the victim's house and threatened to take his own life, and said that his blood was on her hands and told her, er "You ruined my life."

Moore's attorney disagreed and mentioned that Moore is 39 years old and doesn't have a criminal history, and that there's no evidence that he is a threat to the public. The attorney clarified that Moore has been taken to a mental health facility for an evaluation, but it was later turned back over to law enforcement.

According to the Wall Street Journal on Friday, Michigan was notified that in October, Moore had been in a relationship with the victim, though both the woman and Moore had denied this; the institution still fired an outside law firm to further investigate the matter. On Wednesday, it was reported that the woman told the firm that she confirmed that she had a relationship with Moore for 2 years until last year and said that there were emails, texts, and phone records to prove it.

On Thursday, Michigan President Domenico Grasso said the investigation involving Moore is still ongoing. Grasso wrote a letter to the university saying, "When the findings of a university into Coach Moore's behavior were presented on Wednesday, we immediately terminated his employment."
